Summer as he’d known it before was lost to plenty of sacrifices. His eating changed. He was up at 7 every morning to work out. Realizing he no longer has a fallback position if this decision blows up, he basically grew up overnight.

But arriving at training camp was still bloody intimidating. Walking into the Habs’ dressing room, he realized he’d never seen any of these NHLers except on TV. He admits he caught himself looking around a bit and wondering whether he really belonged.


But with a spectacular camp, he turned that around fast. Quickly enough that many people believe his stay around these parts will be like Sergei Kostitsyn, Maxim Lapierre, Carey Price and a bunch of others currently in Montreal.

In a word, brief.

“He’s probably the Number One call-up guy,” says Dogs’ head coach Don Lever, who was able to watch his new star for a while at the Habs’ training camp. “Obviously Montreal’s very high on him.”
