Bulldogs take season opener 3-1 against Moose

Here an excerpt from the game review from Hamiltonbulldogs.com game review of the Bulldogs season opening 3-1 win over the Manitoba Moose:

Marc Denis shut down the Manitoba Moose offence, stopping 30 of the 31 shots he faced to lead the Hamilton Bulldogs to a 3-1 win over their North Division rivals at MTS Centre. A crowd of 8,178 witnessed new Bulldogs additions Mike Glumac and Yanick Lehoux score their first goals in a Bulldogs uniform.

Lehoux scored the first Bulldogs goal of the 2008-2009 season at 6:13 of the opening frame. Brock Trotter carried the puck into Manitoba’s zone before sending a pass to Lehoux who skated in alone on goal and backhanded the puck between the legs of Manitoba starting goaltender Cory Schneider.

The Moose tied the game 1-1 when Michel Ouellet fired a shot that beat Hamilton starting goaltender Marc Denis. Ouellet, who had just stepped out of the penalty box, received a pass from Jason Krog before skating in and snapping a shot past Denis at 14:42 of the second stanza.

Glumac restored Hamilton’s one-goal lead at 16:47 of the middle frame. Glumac and Max Pacioretty skated into Manitoba’s zone on a two-on-one where the Niagara Falls, Ontario native elected to shoot the puck, rifling a shot over the blocker of Schneider to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 advantage.
Nolan Baumgartner sent Krog on a breakaway near the middle of the final frame but Denis stood tall and robbed Krog to retain Hamilton’s lead.

Greg Stewart notched an empty-net marker with 14 seconds remaining in the game to seal a 3-1 win for the Hamilton Bulldogs.
