Excerpt from the Hamilton Spectator game review by Garry McKay:
The Hamilton Bulldogs finally got off to a quick start but they almost couldn’t finish it.
The Dogs led 2-0 early and 3-1 after one period but still needed to score twice in the final 10 minutes of the game to pull out a 5-3 win over the San Antonio Rampage in the Alamo city last night.
“I was really pleased with the way we started,” said head coach Don Lever, who had been harping at his charges that they needed to be better prepared to start games. “But the ice got bad and it turned into a grind at the end.
“We were a little sloppy in our own end but part of that was the bad ice. And they were a real desperate team.”
Ryan White scored Hamilton’s first two goals, at 32 seconds and again at 4:13 and it appeared as though the visitors were well on their way to extending San Antonio’s 13-game winless American Hockey League streak.
