Ryan O’Byrne was scheduled to be re-called and probably would have been part of the Canadiens roster on Saturday were it not for a head-to-head collision in his game with the Bulldogs on Friday night.
O’Byrne along with Roman Hamrlik were the Canadiens’ two best defenseman for a four game span before he was sent to Hamilton.
The Patrice Brisebois watch to 1000 games (and retirement…we can only hope) is now at 2.

MONTREAL – The Montreal Canadiens announced Monday that defenseman Ryan O’Byrne has been recalled from the AHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs.
O’Byrne, assigned to the Bulldogs on February 16, 2008, scored six points (one goal, five assists), posted a plus-9 rating and served 35 penalty minutes in 18 games this season with Hamilton. The 6-foot-6, 228-pound blueliner played in 29 games with the Canadiens this season. He collected three points (three assists) and 29 penalty minutes.
O’Byrne, 24, was a Canadiens third-round selection, 79th overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
do I smell a trade? what would we need O’Byrne for?
Miah.
Seems clear that Gainey will try to deal Dandenault. Canadiens definitely need O’Byrne. He is the only Habs defenseman who can bring a physical presence given that Komisarek is stuggling, hurt, or both.
O’Byrne and Hamrlik have played very well together.
