Canadiens, Halak triumph over Panther 3-1

Here’s an excerpt from the Globesports.com game review by Sean Gordon:

“Sometimes there are things you just can’t explain … over the last five years, it seems it doesn’t really matter what their record is or if they’re playing well, they don’t quit and they always work hard,” Canadiens captain Saku Koivu said. “We got outplayed tonight … the only reason we have two points is [backup goaltender Jaroslav Halak’s] performance, especially in the first two periods.”

Koivu opened the scoring for Montreal on an eye-popping move from defenceman Andrei Markov, who swooped toward the goal, lost the puck in his skates, and somehow flipped a blind back-hand pass to Koivu in the slot.

The diminutive Finn made no mistake, tallying his 600th career point to give him 12th position on the Habs’ career scoring list, 12 points behind Mats Naslund and 23 behind Elmer Lach, who sits 10th.
