MONTREAL – Netminder Jaroslav Halak is the Molson Cup Player of the Month for December. Halak is the recipient of the award for the first time of the 2009-10 season.
Halak collected 20 points in the Molson Cup standings for December by virtue of four first-star selection (Dec. 8 at Ottawa, Dec. 19 at Long Island, Dec. 21 at Atlanta and Dec. 26 at Toronto). Halak finished ahead of teammate Tomas Plekanec, who earned 15 Molson Cup points last month.
Halak had a 6-3-0 record in nine games in December, with a 2.66 goals against average. He also stopped 335 of the 359 shots he faced for a .933 save percentage. He was also named the NHL First Star for the week ending on December 27 with a 3-0-0 record, a 1.97 goals against average and a .959 save percentage, stopping 140 of the 146 shots he faced.
Halak will be presented with the Molson Cup during a pre-game ceremony prior to tomorrow’s game against the Buffalo Sabres at the Bell Centre.
