Game Report

Carey Price became the first goalie in Canadiens history to play 700 games with the team. Price is only the sixth goaltender in NHL history to play 700 games with an NHL franchise. And in this milestone game, Price delivered an outstanding performance.

Price did not give up an even strength goal continuing his strong play over the past six starts. Price has a save percentage of .952 in March.

The Jets pose a significant challenge to the rest of the division but their speed game is not unlike the Habs when they are playing well. The first period was played at an incredible pace by both teams. The Jets were the better team in the first and third periods but it was Montreal who take advantage of their opportunities in the middle frame.

On Sunday, Josh Anderson promised “I can guarantee that tomorrow everyone’s going to be flying out there and ready to go because we have to.” And Anderson certainly delivered making an incredible effort to setup the Canadiens first goal and he got a goal of his own 92 seconds later on the power-play.

Montreal converted Jets turnovers by Josh Morrisey, Neil Pionk and Andrew Copp. Puck management was clearly an issue for the Jets but credit must go to the Canadiens for pressuring Winnipeg particularly in the second period to cause the giveaways. Habs pressured with speed and good sticks.

Up Next

This was one of the more entertaining games of the season with speed, power play goals and physicality. The Canadiens and Jets will renew acquaintances on Wednesday night.

Post-game Quotes

Dominique Ducharme

  • “I really liked our defensive pairings. I liked our game as a whole. From our goaltender to our defensemen to our forwards, I liked the way we played.”
  • “We lost the puck a few times at the start of the game and they spent some time in our zone. A goaltender of Carey (Price’s) calibre can make key saves at key times. That’s his type of game and his type of performance. That’s how he inspires the team.”

Brett Kulak

  • “[Carey Price] has been really good now for the last few weeks. When he gets feeling good, it seems like nothing’s going by him. It’s nice having him back there. He’s a leader on our team. He kind of sets the tone. He made some big saves and he’s making good plays, stopping the puck behind the net and making some good passes to us so we can get some breakouts done easy. It kind of boosts the whole morale of the team. When you see him playing like that, it makes you want to elevate your game.”

Josh Anderson

  • “Later in the year, every team is going to be hard to play against. The thing that stands out most about the Jets is their speed. But I thought we did a good job of limiting their chances off the rush. Carey (Price) stood in there all night for us. He played absolutely amazing, and what a milestone for him tonight.”
