PRESS RELEASE
MONTREAL — Montreal Canadiens general manager Pierre Gauthier announced Tuesday the signing of defenseman Mathieu Carle to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2010-11 season. As per club policy, financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Carle, 22, was held scoreless in three games with the Canadiens this season, including his first career NHL game on November 3 against the Atlanta Thrashers at the Bell Centre. He maintained a plus-1 differential while averaging 14:28 of ice time per game.
The 6-foot, 203-pound defenseman also recorded 15 points (5 goals, 10 assists) in 31 games with the Hamilton Bulldogs in 2009-10. Carle maintained a plus-4 differential, adding 67 shots on goal and 26 penalty minutes.
A native of Gatineau, Quebec, Carle was selected in the second round, 53rd overall by the Canadiens at the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
