Canadiens Place Tomas Kaberle on Waivers

30.03.2013 | NHL News

MONTREAL, QC — The Montreal Canadiens placed defenceman Tomas Kaberle on waivers Saturday.

The 35 year old veteran has played 10 games this season, registering three assists and a plus-four rating. In 984 career games with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, Carolina Hurricanes and Montreal Canadiens, Kaberle has scored 87 goals and 476 assists.

It hasn’t been decided if Kaberle will be assigned to the Hamilton Bulldogs if he clears. The move opens up the possibility for Habs to do so, should they require salary cap flexibility prior to Wednesday’s trade deadline.

Kaberle still has one year left on his contract following this season, worth an average annual value of $4.25 million.

Tomas Kaberle was drafted  in the eighth round, 204th overall in 1996 NHL by the Maple Leafs. He was acquired by the Canadiens from the Carolina Hurricanes in 2011 in exchange for defenceman Jaroslav Spacek.
