MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens general manager Pierre Gauthier announced Friday the signing of defenseman Alex Henry to a two-year, two-way contract (2010-11 and 2011-12). As per club policy, financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Henry, 30, played in 68 of 80 games with the Hamilton Bulldogs in 2009-10. He registered 13 points (13 assists), posted a +17 plus/minus differential and ranked second on the team with 154 penalty minutes.
The six-foot-six, 231-pound defenseman played in two games with the Canadiens in 2008-09. Since making his NHL debut in 2002-03, the defenseman native of Elliot Lake, Ontario served 269 penalty minutes in 177 NHL games, with Edmonton, Washington, Minnesota and Montreal.
Henry was the Bulldogs’ team captain for the past season. He was also team captain with the Milwaukee Admirals in the American Hockey League in 2007-08.
Henry was selected in the third round, 67th overall by the Edmonton Oilers at the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. He joined the Canadiens as a free agent on July 3, 2008.
