The 2008-2009 hockey season has gotten underway for a handful of the Canadiens prospects, as Russia has started preseason action already, and another four prospects are attending their National Junior camps with three of them also taking part in a mini U-20 tournament starting Tuesday, August 5th. PK Subban has been attending Team Canada’s summer camp with positive reports suggesting he is having a good showing as expected. Ryan McDonagh and Danny Kristo are taking part in Team USA’s camp and Nichlas Torp is currently with Team Sweden as they took on AIK of the second men’s league in Sweden. All three prospects will then meet in the mini tournament where two USA squads will face Team Sweden and Team Finland. The Canadiens 34 prospects will likely be playing in eight different leagues (KHL, SEL, QMJHL, OHL, NCAA, USHL, AHL and ECHL) in four different countries (Canada, USA, Russia and Sweden).

  1. Greg Pateryn was a late addition to the USA WJC Evaluation camp, and survived the first cut ahead of a couple older players, Ted Ruth and Scooter Vaughn. Pateryn has gone from being one of the top 20 American defensemen eligible for the tournament to the top 16 at least.
