SIX BULLDOGS RECALLED TO CANADIENS
Carr, Condon, Dietz, Hudon, Lernout, Thomas to serve as Habs’ black aces
Hamilton Bulldogs Press Release
MONTREAL, QUE. – Montreal Canadiens and Hamilton Bulldogs general manager Marc Bergevin announced today that six Bulldogs have been recalled to the Canadiens to serve as black aces for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The recalled players include forwards Daniel Carr, Charles Hudon and Christian Thomas, defencemen Darren Dietz and Brett Lernout as well as goaltender Mike Condon.
The players will travel to Montreal on Monday, April 20 and practice at the Bell Sports Complex in Brossard starting on Tuesday.
I’ve always wondered…why are they called “Black Aces”?
It is told that the term came from the days of team owner Eddie Shore. A black ace is a card that is held, not played. Players in that time who weren’t playing had to do arena maintenance.
Brett Lernout has had a good season and fit in well when he came to the Bulldogs. Simple explanation is that the ‘vets’ are injured: Drewiske, Tinordi, Allen, Nygren are all injured.
