Canadiens unveil commemorative coin

MONTREAL – Now more than ever, wherever you go, the Canadiens will be right there with you.
Canadiens President Pierre Boivin, together with Ian Bennett, president of the Royal Canadian Mint, unveiled a commemorative $1 Canadiens coin. It’s a first in North American professional sports; no other team has had its logo grace such any coin.
“We are touched that the Royal Canadian Mint was willing to pay tribute to the Canadiens’ history with this coin,” said Boivin. “The Canadiens will now truly be at all four corners of the country.”
Starting on Wednesday March 11, Canadiens fans and coin collectors alike will be able to collect the special Centennial circulation coin by looking in their change or by visiting Metro grocery stores across Quebec where this keepsake is being exclusively distributed.
The Royal Canadian Mint will also unveil a limited-edition Montreal Canadiens Centennial proof silver dollar enhanced with touches of selective gold plating.
