Game Report

This game was a mismatch from the drop of the puck. The Hurricanes dominated this game in every respect. But at the same time, Carolina kept one eye focused on the second season where they should be considered a Cup contender.

So rather than turn up their effort level to the maximum and risk any injury, they simply did enough to completely control the pace of this game. They restricted Montreal to their own zone for most of the game.

The Hurricanes outshot the Canadiens 50-14; shot attempts were 72-23. However, high-danger scoring chances were just 7-5 for Carolina.

So while it was a busy night for Sam Montembeault, he wasn’t overly tested by Canes shooters. At the other end of the ice, Antti Raanta made 14 saves for his fourth shutout of the season.

The Canadiens were on their back foot for the 60 minutes. They spent the entire night chasing the puck. It was a playoff tune-up for Carolina but fatiguing for the home team.

In the category of unusual statistics, the Canadiens have not defeated the Hurricanes in regulation (8-0-1) since the Sebastian Aho offer sheet by Marc Bergevin.

Tonight the Habs were taught a lesson reminding them just how far they are from the elite NHL teams. Montreal suffered their third loss in a row.

Up Next

The Canadiens continue their home stand hosting the Detroit Red Wings at the Bell Centre on Tuesday night.

After the game, the Canadiens announced that David Savard is done for the season with a knee injury.
