It started with a full period of domination by the Canadiens outshooting Vancouver 10-2 in the opening frame. But Montreal’s possession of the first period was offset by sloppy play and dreadful defensive coverage. Lost defensive zone draws, dangerous turnovers, poor penalty-killing and an inability by the defence to clear the front of the net led to Canucks goals. On the other side of the coin, the Canadiens showed resiliency with Tomas Tatar and Brendan Gallagher scoring tying goals after the Canucks went ahead. According to Dominique Ducharme, it was Shea Weber and Corey Perry supplying the “good words” to their teammates on the bench to keep everyone calm. Carey Price shut the door in the overtime and shootout with Tatar scoring the game-deciding goal. Artturi Lehkonen was a revelation playing with Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Joel Armia leaving fans wondering why he was ever sitting in favor of Paul Byron. Up NextThe Canadiens have completed their regular season matchup with the Vancouver Canucks and have earned a day off on Sunday. Montreal has a two point advantage with four games in hand.
