Game Report

This was a rollercoaster of a game. It started with a full period of domination by the Canadiens outshooting Vancouver 10-2 in the opening frame. But Montreal’s possession of the first period was offset by sloppy play and dreadful defensive coverage.

Lost defensive zone draws, dangerous turnovers, poor penalty-killing and an inability by the defence to clear the front of the net led to Canucks goals. On the other side of the coin, the Canadiens showed resiliency with Tomas Tatar and Brendan Gallagher scoring tying goals after the Canucks went ahead.

According to Dominique Ducharme, it was Shea Weber and Corey Perry supplying the “good words” to their teammates on the bench to keep everyone calm.

Carey Price shut the door in the overtime and shootout with Tatar scoring the game-deciding goal.

Artturi Lehkonen was a revelation playing with Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Joel Armia leaving fans wondering why he was ever sitting in favor of Paul Byron.

What Did They Say?

Post-game Quotes

Dominique Ducharme

  • “I thought we played a good game collectively. But, we paid the price for our mistakes. We didn’t give up much. We had a lot of scoring chances, but when we made a mistake, they capitalized.”

Tomas Tatar

  • “The last time I tried a move and it didn’t work, for some reason I got some heat from people. It’s a shootout. You try to fool the goalie. I don’t see any difference between the move I did before and now. I’m very happy to put it in. I believed that Carey (Price) would make that save. We were very happy with the win. It was a big rollercoaster game. We stayed with it, and it’s a big two points.”

Carey Price

  • “Gally’s an awesome teammate. His work ethic speaks for itself. He’s always very supportive off the ice and he’s fun to hang around with. Over all these years, we’ve had a lot of great times together, and I appreciate him sticking up for me, too.”
