The Jean Béliveau Trophy awarded to Carey Price acknowledged for his community involvement in 2013-14. Price will receive the award prior to Saturday’s preseason game against the Ottawa Senators.

MONTREAL (October 2, 2014) – The recipient of the Jean Béliveau trophy for the 2013-14 season will be honored during a short ceremony before the game between the Ottawa Senators and the Montreal Canadiens this Saturday at the Bell Centre. On that occasion, Canadiens netminder Carey Price will be presented with the award for his charitable actions and community involvement.
The selection committee, consisting for the most part of members of the Board of directors of the Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation, evaluated all candidates according to their commitment, enthusiasm, implication and time invested in collective and personal initiatives. Candidates were also judged on their leadership and financial support to the causes they chose to support.
Carey, along with his wife Angela, have been committed to their adoptive community and its youth ever since they arrived in Montreal back in 2007. The Prices have been involved on a personal level, supporting various causes and taking part in several fundraising events. A talented athlete, an outstanding goaltender and a valued teammate, Carey is not only recognized for his work between the pipes. He comes across as a generous person who gives time and provides financial resources to those who need it most. A true supporter of our youth, Carey offered to sponsor a program that aims to prevent kids from dropping out of school. As part of the “Stick with School” initiative, he donates a pair of tickets to a child and a mentor to attend each of the team’s 46 homes games, providing them with food and gift vouchers.
Since beginning his hockey career at the professional level, Carey Price has always been actively involved with various charitable endeavors back home in British Columbia. He acts as Ambassador to First Nations kids through the Breakfast Club of Canada, taking part in several educational programs in various schools in his native village of Anahim Lake. His participation in this initiative translated into over 10,000 meals that were served to kids of that community each year. Carey has taken part in many of the Canadiens’ community events, including the club’s annual visit at children’s hospitals, the Canadiens Annual Blood Clinic and the Canadiens Radio Telethon. Over the past several years, he has lent his support to the Carson Kolzig Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to education and resources for individuals with autism.
The Jean Béliveau trophy is awarded annually to the Canadiens player who best exemplifies leadership qualities in the community. In honor of Jean Béliveau’s loyalty, consideration and commitment to the community, the award is accompanied by a $25,000 donation from the Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation which Carey will remit to the charity of his choice.
