CBC Press Release

HNIC SongSeptember 11, 2013 – The first game of the 2013-14 NHL season on CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA is just over three weeks away, but before the puck drops with Molson Canadian NHL Face-Off on October 1, CBC has three Saturday nights of pre-season action to tide fans over until the regular season begins. Kraft Hockeyville gets the pre-season underway with Washington Capitals and Winnipeg Jets doing battle in Belleville, ON on September 14 at 7 p.m. ET (4 p.m. PT) live on CBC-TV and online at CBCSports.ca.

The township of Stirling-Rawdon, ON celebrated its Kraft Hockeyville contest win last September with a Stanley Cup® parade, an NHL alumni visit and game, hockey clinics, and a $100,000 cheque from Kraft Canada for arena upgrades and renovations to the Stirling District Recreation Centre. The celebration continues this year with the NHL pre-season game at nearby Yardmen Arena in Belleville.

Ron MacLean will be on-location in the home arena to host CBC’s NHL pre-season broadcasts and will be joined by Don Cherry (@CoachsCornerCBC) for a special in-arena edition of Coach’s Corner presented by Budweiser for the Kraft Hockeyville game.

CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA returns on Saturday, September 21 with a doubleheader beginning with an Atlantic Division match-up between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres at 7 p.m. ET (4 p.m. PT). The pre-season action continues later that night with an all-Canadian match-up featuring the Vancouver Canucks visiting the Edmonton Oilers in a Pacific Division contest at 10 p.m. ET (7 p.m. PT).

CBC’s NHL pre-season broadcast schedule wraps up on Saturday, September 28 with an Original Six match-up and a preview of this season’s Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic game between the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs from Toronto at 7 p.m. ET (4 p.m. PT). These longtime rivals have been reunited in the new Atlantic Division and will square off four times during the regular season.

Each NHL pre-season game broadcast on CBC-TV will also be available live online at CBCSports.ca.
