Game Report

The final game of the regular season was not an oil painting, to coin a phrase, but it was entertaining for Habs fans at the Bell Centre. The visiting Bruins did not bring their ‘A’-game, instead delivering a half-hearted effort at times. Yet the excellence of the Boston squad was evident as they shifted into a higher gear to score goals seemingly at will.

The highlight of the night was Lucas Condotta scoring his first career goal in his first NHL shift. Condotta was an emergency recall from the Laval Rocket as Mike Hoffman was unable to play.

Nick Suzuki notched his 26th goal of the season tying Cole Caufield for the team lead. Suzuki had four of his 26 goals this season against the Bruins.

Joel Edmundson scored a clear decision over A.J. Greer in clear retribution for the Boston player crosschecking Mike Hoffman in the face during the last time these two teams met. Greer received a one-game suspension from the NHL’s department of player safety.

The Canadiens and Bruins traded goals for three periods with David Pastrnak notching his 61st goal of the season for the game-winner. Sam Montembeault gave up five goals on 21 shots for a .762 save percentage.

Players saluted the fans at the end of the game and posed for a team photo along with their injured teammates. When Carey Price appeared, the Bell Centre fans erupted with a ‘Ca-rey, Ca-rey’ chant!

The Canadiens have completed their 82-game schedule for the 2022-’23 NHL regular season. They finish the season with a record of 31-45-6 for 68 points and 28th place in the NHL standings.
