After the Blackhawks selected Dach third overall in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, they were willing to part ways with the underachieving 21-year-old this summer when Kent Hughes came knocking. To be fair, Chicago GM Kyle Davidson received a substantial return from the Canadiens in the 13th overall selection in last summer’s draft along with an early third round pick. And Dach has not yet become the second line centre that Hughes expected when he made the deal. But Dach is third in Canadiens scoring with 17 points in 21 games. And today, with boos raining down from the United Centre fans, he scored the game-deciding goal in a shootout to give the Canadiens their 10th win of the season. Montreal had the better quality chances today, with a 9-7 advantage in high-danger scoring chances. But the visitor’s focus was on puck management. The Canadiens registered just six turnovers (versus 15 for the Hawks.) And Habs skaters defended extremely well in the latter stages of the game with Sam Montembeault not facing a single high-danger scoring chance in the third period or overtime. Up NextThe Canadiens have a short break before returning to the ice at the Bell Centre on Tuesday night against the San Jose Sharks.Plus▲ Sean Monahan, Joel Armia, Kirby Dach, Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, Sam MontembeaultMinus▼ Evgenii Dadonov, Christian Dvorak, Brendan Gallagher, Juraj Slafkovsky, Jake Evans, Michael Pezzetta, Joel EdmundsonGame PreviewCheck out the game preview here: Dach Excited to Return | PREVIEW: MTL @ CHI |
