Here’s an excerpt from the Hamilton Spectator article by Garry McKay who talks to Don Lever and some of the Bulldogs player about their 100% success rate on the PK:
Alex Henry, Shawn Belle and Pavel Valentenko are getting a heavy workload on defence killing penalties, as well. Up front, Lever has been using a lot of the young guys such as Brock Trotter, Ryan Russell, Ben Maxwell and David Desharnais.
“I think our success has a lot to do with our mobility up front,” said Lever. “The guys up front are more willing to block shots than the guys last year. I think the other thing, at least in our end, is that the guys have better hands this year and you have to have good hands to be a penalty killer. We’re aggressive and we want to be even more aggressive. We don’t have the four guys force at the same time like some teams do. We play the dots, but when it’s a bouncing puck or when someone has their back turned, trying to make a play, that’s when we pressure. We try to play the odds.”
