Habs News: Montreal Canadiens, NHL, Angela Price, Carey Price, David Savard, Laval Rocket, Martin Laperriere
ROCKET SPORTS MEDIA | MONTREAL, QC. — As many Canadiens fans wait for Marc Bergevin to make a move for a centre and a puck-moving defenceman, other Canadiens news stories were happening. Here are your Habs Headlines.
David Savard
Newly-signed defenceman David Savard fulfilled a childhood dream by donning a Montreal Canadiens jersey at the Bell Centre on Monday.
Angela Price
On her personal blog, Angela Price shared her thoughts on a variety of topics including the Stanley Cup playoffs, the Expansion Draft and Carey Price‘s surgery in New York City.
Angela described the most recent Canadiens playoff run as “…a wild ride! The worst, best experience of my life.” She related feelings of anxiety to elation. The Canadiens overtime win over Vegas in the semi-finals was acknowledged as one of her “favorite hockey memories of all time.”
While the Canadiens said it was Carey’s idea to expose himself to the Seattle expansion draft, Angela writes only that “the decision was made to leave Carey unprotected during the expansion draft.” In her mind there was little chance that her husband would be selected by the Kraken. She thought to herself “Seattle wouldn’t even give him a second glance,” given Carey’s injury and contract.
Once Seattle indicated that they were seriously considering selecting Price, Angela began preparing herself for the potential opportunity of returning to the Pacific Northwest. However once Carey’s agent indicated that there was a real chance of going to the Kraken, the reality hit Angela hard. She knew that her “heart is with the Canadiens organization.”
Angela gave a summary of Carey’s knee surgery writing, “Carey’s surgery went exactly how we had hoped and it looks like he has just a couple months of rehab ahead of him and then we hope his knee will be as good as new!”
New Laval coach
The Laval Rocket have appointed Martin Laperriere as assistant coach for the upcoming season. Laperriere has been an associate coach of the Quebec Remparts since the 2018-19 season. The 46-year-old had been an assistant coach with the Remparts from 2005-06 through the 2015-16 season.
“Martin is a highly respected instructor with years of experience at all levels of hockey. He will be able to complement our group of coaches wonderfully,” emphasizes Jean-François Houle. “His successes speak for themselves. Many of the players he has coached have made or are now enjoying professional careers. Whether at the junior or international level, Martin has always shown that he is a loyal and reliable coach. He is a man of values, and I am very proud of his addition to our staff.”
Laperriere will join the staff of Laval head coach Jean-François Houle along with assistant coach Kelly Buchberger.
