Game Report

Another blowout. But this one was particularly demoralizing. The Devils are a bottom-5 team in the league with bad goaltending. Until tonight.

New Jersey pressured Canadiens puck carriers all over the ice and when they had possession easily navigated into the Montreal zone. The broadcaster claimed that it was the Devils’ best second period all season. And it came against the Habs.

New Jersey had won just once in their previous 10 games. Yet, they had little difficulty with this year’s edition of the Canadiens.

Canadiens’ forwards had good shifts. They threatened and hit iron. But then, they gave up a soft goal.

When a save is needed, the Canadiens netminders can’t be counted on. The team is struggling with two AHL-calibre goaltenders.

This team has a myriad of problems besides the player manning the crease. But when a team doesn’t gave goaltending, it’s difficult to fight through any of the other issues.

In the words of Josh Anderson, “We got embarrassed out there tonight.”

It was the Canadiens 30th regulation loss of the season in game 45. And it seemed to hurt the players more than most.

What Did They Say?

Post-game Quotes

Josh Anderson

  • “It’s not fun losing right now. It’s not fun coming to the rink. We’ve got to make hockey fun again and just refresh. Throw this one out the window and come back to work next game ready to go. We just can’t get embarrassed like that. It’s not right.”
  • We got embarrassed out there tonight. You’d think after the break, we’d be refreshed and ready to go. You guys witnessed it out there. We had better be ready to go next game.”

Nick Suzuki

  • “There was a point in the second period where we were playing some pretty good hockey, but overall there weren’t many great performances from any of the forwards or defence.”
