Enough With The Forsberg Stories/Rumours…….Peter, Make a @#%&!*$ Decision!!!!

Courier-Post(Oft-injured star center Forsberg not right fit for Flyers): http://www.courierpostonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080210/SPORTS04/802100382/1017

Habster:

I agree with Courier-Post writer, Chuck Gormley that the Flyers and for the most part, a majority of the NHL teams pursuing him, should be extremely careful about signing him to a contract. Since the 2003-04 season, Forsberg has been out of the lineup due to various injuries (mostly due to his chronic foot problems) a total of 139 games or roughly 42% of the NHL regular season and by all accounts in the media (realiable or not), his foot issues haven’t been completely resolved nor will it ever be in the near future.

If you haven’t noticed, I haven’t posted too many Peter Forberg rumours or stories because frankly, I’m tired of the constant “Forsberg is contemplating a return to the NHL” stories that have been in the media since the start of training camps this year…….give us a break, please!!! It’s bad enough that hockey fans around the league had to constantly hear about when or if Scott Niedermayer or Teemu Selanne would return to the NHL or Anaheim. Were these stories dominating the hockey media simply because there hasn’t been many trades in the new salary cap era of the NHL?

In the end, I was glad to hear that Bob Gainey did not make Forsberg a contract offer (he probably wouldn’t have considered it anyway) as he isn’t worth the risk especially when he wants a 2-3 year guaranteed contract for $5-$6 million per season.

When or if Forsberg can ever overcome these injuries and remain health, there is no question he can still be a dominate NHL player but is he worth rolling the dice for and paralyzing your team’s salary cap structure while he is on the IR list…….I don’t think so!!!
