Esposito, Irving among World Junior cuts; P.K. Subban makes roster as 7th defenseman

Habster:

Bad news for Penguin fans and management as Esposito gets cut a third time while a pleasant surprise for Canadiens fans and management with P.K Subban making the Canadian junior roster as the seventh defenseman.

Unfortunately, Angelo Esposito is more of a one dimensional player who doesn’t play a great two way game. He doesn’t always bring his “A” game to the rink on a nightly basis and if he doesn’t score goals then he isn’t an asset to the team.

P.K Subban must have impressed Craig Hartsburg and the coaching staff with his hustle and skill set (especially his great skating) to make the team. Subban beat out some serious prospects on defense. Players like Kevin Marshall, Brendan Smith, Andrew Bodnarchuk, Keaton Ellerby(1st round pick of San Jose) and Ty Wishart (10th overall pick of the Florida Panthers). Hopefully, he’ll get some playing time in the tournament.

Another Habs prospect, Ryan White was cut from the team for the second time. White has a lot of heart and grit but his chances of making the team were probably hurt by his lack of foot speed.

Canadiens prospects to watch at the WJC: P.K. Subban, Yannick Weber (Swiss team), Max Pacioretty(USA).
