October 4, 2012 – Canadians are passionate about hockey and CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA is giving them the power to determine Saturday night programming for the iconic show. With HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA: YOUR PICK, fans will have a choice of five memorable games from any era, including regular-season and playoffs, all-star games and international match-ups. The week’s most popular choice as decided by Canadians will be unveiled by host Ron MacLean on Hockey Night in Canada the following Saturday night at 8 p.m. (8:30 p.m. NT) on CBC-TV.

“For Canadians, Saturday night is always Hockey Night in Canada. While we continue to hope for a timely resolution to the lockout, we want to ensure that fans across the country can still watch the game they love,” said Julie Bristow, Executive Director, Studio and Unscripted Programming, English Service, CBC. “Not only does Hockey Night in Canada: Your Pick give fans the chance to choose which games we broadcast, it also provides generations of fans the chance to experience some of the most memorable games ever played, again or for the first time.”

A new set of five games will be posted each week along with descriptions detailing the significance of each memorable match-up. Each option will give fans the chance to re-live some of the most iconic games in hockey history, or to see legendary on-ice battles for the first time. Voting is unlimited, so fans can vote for their pick as many times as they want during the voting period.

Voting is now open at CBCSports.ca/YourPick for the October 13 broadcast. Canadians can also vote via Facebook at Facebook.com/HockeyNightInCanada. The next set of five games will be posted on Tuesday, October 9, at which point fans can begin casting their votes for the October 20 broadcast.

Once they’ve made their picks, viewers can share their vote on Twitter by using the hashtag #HockeyNight. A live Twitter feed located at CBCSports.ca/YourPick allows fans to stay up-to-date with the online conversation as they cast their votes.
