Below is an excerpt from Lyle Richardson’s (Spector) great website, Spector’s Hockey which has two articles from RDS and Le Journal de Montreal which quotes Bob Gainey as saying he isn’t interested in acquiring the injury prone Gaborik
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Hat tip to “Claude” and “Daniel” for the links. Hopefully Gainey’s comments will bring these silly rumors tying Gaborik to the Canadiens to an end, though I’m sure some of the folks spinning the Gaborik rumors will begin a column with “Contrary to Gainey’s latest remarks”… or “Gainey isn’t going to admit it but….”
Regardless, Gaborik’s salary and health issues (that nagging groin injury) makes him a tough sell right now, and quite frankly it’s far too early to start suggesting the Habs need to power up, especially on the wing, given their current strong start. Now I don’t rule out the possibility of Gainey trying to bolster his depth for a Cup run at some point this season but I believe such a move will occur close to the March 3rd trade deadline rather than now.
Gainey’s signing of Robert Lang killed any possibility of Sundin coming to Montreal. As for Havlat, while it’s doubtful the Blackhawks will re-sign him after this season (he’s a UFA) if they’re in the playoff chase he won’t be going anywhere.
