Game Recap:The Canadiens started strong and scored the first goal of the game. Unfortunately there first lead of the ECF lasted only 17 seconds. It was a fluke goal for the visitors but it took a lot of energy out of the Bell Centre and with it from the Habs players. Dustin Tokarski played adequately but allowed two more goals than Carey Price might have. The Canadiens didn’t do enough to put traffic in front of Henrik Lundqvist and they were dreadful on special teams. - “To win hockey games, first of all you need some breaks and you need some calls at the right time. I’m sure that the referees when they have a chance to review the call (on Alex Galchenyuk) probably they will take a different version of what he did. It happened fast. Right now we don’t have those breaks. Tonight we didn’t have those calls.”
- “I liked our team effort. I thought that our effort was great tonight.”
- “The number one reason why that we decided to go with (Dustin) Tokarski, you look at his track record, he’s a winner, and I thought he played well tonight. I believe he did well, and we’re pleased with our decision.”
- “We did talk to Peter (Budaj) this morning, and he really reacted as a pro. He’s a good teammate, understands our decision. We let him know the reason why, so for sure for him it could be tough. Those are tough decisions, but we had to take it.”
- “The reason why tonight that we lost the game was (Henrik) Lundqvist. Lundqvist was phenomenal, phenomenal, stole the game. Those things happen in the playoffs. But I like the way we approached tonight’s game.”
- “Tomorrow is going to be a day off for everyone. It’s good mentally and physically for the players and coaches. We going to have to regroup and make sure we get a good performance in New York. Momentum in the playoffs can change very quick.”

- I thought he played great tonight, he gave us a chance. You know, those are tough goals to stop, the ones that went in, and I thought he did a great job, very composed for a young guy like that.”

- “In this building and in the shadows and having everyone talk about the loss of Carey (Price), and I’m sure everyone’s talking about how [Dustin Tokarski] has to be the savior and fill his boots and this that and the next, and it’s a lot. It’s a lot to take in for a young guy. But if there’s anyone who could do it, it’s him.”

- “I thought [Dustin Tokarski] was awesome. He made a lot big saves to keep it 3-1 and allow us to make the chase at the end.’’

- “You grow up as a kid wanting to play in the playoffs, and I got the opportunity and came up a bit short,It was a lot of fun, a lot of adrenaline. It was a big opportunity.’”
- “It felt good. It was good to get a tough one in there early and get in the game.”
- “The second one, I was expecting him to hold on to it a bit more, and he caught me off guard a bit with the shot. I would like to have beat the pass and gotten there on that one.”
- “There’s always pressure, but it’s good pressure. It’s what you want to have.”
- “Yeah, [Carey Price] just said, ‘Go out there, play your game and be a warrior and do your best. That’s all you can do.'”
- “[Henrik Lundqvist] is a superstar at the other end and he played like it tonight. That was probably the difference.”
- “I thought I played well, but I came up short with a few big saves. [Henrik Lundqvist] made a few more big saves, game-changers, than I did. That was the difference tonight.”
- “We knew that they were going to come hard. They were all over us. To tie it up quickly like that was important.”
- “The first period was a tough one. They had a really strong 20 minutes. But then going out of the second with the lead felt good.”
- You have to go out and earn it every game. The first two here, I think we played well for the most part. I had to make a couple of saves here and there, but as a group we played really well.”
- “I don’t really think about what’s in their head. what is their approach. I don’t really care. I just try to focus on what I have to do, really.”
Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault
- “Well [Henrik Lundqvist] was the only reason we were still in the game. They had a tremendous push, they had total control and possession of the game. And they scored to make it 1-0. Obviously the turning point is us within a minute scoring to tie it up off a lucky bounce. That changed the momentum, changed the dynamics of the game, and from there we clawed our way through the end of the period.”
- “In the second (period) and the third we were good until, we took that penalty at the end there and gave them that 6-on-4 where they got some looks.”
- “We’re getting the right saves at the right time. When Montreal was pushing, on the bench the talk was we needed to start making some plays. He needed to start to manage the puck. They made it really challenging for us but I thought after we got that break on the goal, we were a little bit better.”
- “Somehow we had an inclination that last night that it was probably going to be [Dustin Tokarski], so it didn’t really surprise us.”
