 Game Recap:

Once again the Canadiens had difficulty generating offense 5-on-5 and squandered three first period power-plays. The Bruins got a goal in the first and put the game away with two power-play markers early in the second period. The Desharnais line continued its dismal playoff performance yet coach Therrien gave them 20+ minutes of ice-time including power-play starts.

 Post-game Press Conference

186237429_slideHead coach Michel Therrien

  • “They capitalized on their power-plays and it gave them momentum.”
  • “Frustration or not, we gotta make sure we play with some more composure.”
  • On P.K. Subban getting sprayed with water from the Bruins bench: “Yeah, we saw that. I don’t want to comment on that.”
  • “I thought we were intense when we started the game but their power-play gave them a lot of momentum and confidence. That’s the way I see it.”
  • “Told [Brandon Prust] last night (that he would play.) I got a conversation with Danny (Briere) this morning (that he would be scratched.)”
  • “Well, we scored two power-play goals today. We have to be better 5-on-5.”
  • Replied with a curt “No” when asked if he would split up David Desharnais and Max Pacioretty.

Goalie Carey Price

  • “They capitalized on a couple opportunities right at the start of the second period, and that was a tough hole to dig out of. We’re going to stay positive. The series is not over yet. We’re going home, and we’re going to bring our absolute best.”
  • “We’re going to be a desperate club come the next game. I think we’re excited for the challenge.”

Captain Brian Gionta

  • “We couldn’t really establish much right from the get-go. We were chasing the puck, we didn’t transition very well. They brought the play to us for most of the game.”

Defenseman P.K. Subban

  • “I don’t know if it was [Shawn Thornton] but somebody squirted water twice at the end of the game there, hit me in the visor. I couldn’t even see the last minute and a half out there. So, I was pretty upset about that. But, I mean, it’s part of the game.”

NHL: Boston Bruins at Carolina HurricanesBruins forward Jarome Iginla

  • “We expect that we are going to have to play our best game yet. But we also feel like we want to keep building off what we are doing. Today feels good but that’s a part of the playoffs. It’s literally as soon as we leave the rink it’s done and it’s about preparing for that next game and trying to go in there and we know that they are going to try to use their crowd and we are most likely going to need our best game of the series.

Bruins head coach Claude Julien

  • “I think our power play was due. After the first period, our power play was just average so we had a little chat and talked about bringing the intensity up there on our power play and winning more battles and making stronger plays. And it gave us obviously those two goals, which were huge for us, but as always and as a normal situation will tell you, you always like to play for the lead, and it was nice for us to have it and be able to hang onto it.”
  • “5-on-5 we’ve been good, it hasn’t been an issue where we’re giving up goals. And again tonight, they got two more power-play goals but, I think, 5-on-5 our team has done a good job.”
  • On Shawn Thornton spraying water at P.K. Subban: “I certainly don’t support those kinda things but I didn’t see it so I can’t comment.”
  • “I think everybody who knows and who has followed our team noticed that. I think it was more — we seemed more in control, we seemed to be putting pucks in the right areas, we seemed to be in sync, and I thought we were focused for the whole 60 minutes. It was a great effort on our part. As I said earlier, there’s a lot tougher times coming and we have to be ready for the next one.”
  • “Our guys are better now, obviously we made that adjustment. It really helps Tuukka (Rask.) It’s important for us to be strong in front of him.”
