Game Preview by Sam Gerber |
Last game : MTL 5 OTT 2 Against Ottawa on Tuesday night, the Canadiens played almost a complete game. Everything seemed to be clicking, albeit with the exception of falling asleep for most of the second period when Carey Price was called upon to carry his team. Paul Byron’s addition to the Max Domi line in place of Andrew Shaw seemed to be the catalyst. Byron, Domi and Jonathan Drouin helped power the Canadiens offence. Artturi Lehkonen and Brendan Gallagher also added to the scoring. Price was great too throughout as he held down the fort which set the tone allowing the Habs to take over.
For a complete game recap: Domi and the Habs Roll Over Ottawa
Players to watch
- Max Domi
Domi got out of his flunk with a three-point performance. His game wasn’t all positive, however, as he needlessly took a double minor for roughing.
- Jonathan Drouin
Drouin looked extremely confident and has started shooting the puck, which was a problem earlier in the season. His defensive game still has a long way to go and will require more commitment on his part.
- Brett Kulak
Kulak looked good again but it is clear that this is much more about the ability of Shea Weber to raise the level of play of his partner. Kulak skates well and has a good stick but his physical game and decision-making is why he really belongs on the third pair.
Keys to Victory
- Set the tone
After beating the Sens convincingly on Tuesday, the Habs have to set the tone early, get a lead, and not look back.
- Win special teams
Special Teams will be a big factor in what should be a very chippy game.
- Exert pressure
The Habs caused havoc for the Senators defense last game and Montreal forwards need to pressure them once more.

What to Expect by Sam Gerber |
The Canadiens have to pick up where they left off on Tuesday night. The duo of Max Domi and Jonathan Drouin simply took over last game and need to bring that energy once again. On the other hand, the Senators are going to come out angry. They weret out played and must answer for that. With last game seeing two small skirmishes, this game may be nasty. The Canadiens will have to match the emotion but play smart. |
