GAME DAY | Leafs – Canadiens: Preview, Lines, Goalies, TV, Fantasy

Pre-game Notes and Quotes
  • Head Coach Michel Therrien: “Dealing with injuries is a challenge for everyone. It might be rare to see it happen to so many different players, but that’s no excuse. It’s a challenge to make the playoffs when your team is healthy, so when you missing pieces of your lineup, it is an even greater challenge,”
  • Brendan Gallagher on the Canadiens’ upcoming game against the Leafs: “I hope [they didn’t underestimate us]. We’ve been through some stuff here in the last few months but we still believe we’re a pretty good hockey team, we’re just going to keep competing night after night. It’s about getting results and getting back to the winning attitude that we’ve had for so long in here. It’s a good step in the right direction.”
  • With many pundits expecting the Leafs to be very active during the upcoming trade deadline, Morgan Rielly had this to say about the whole situation: “This time of year comes around every season, and players might be a bit nervous about what’s going to happen with their future, but you can’t spend too much time worrying about it because things are going to happen that aren’t within your control, all you can do is play your best, be a good teammate and roll with the punches.”
  • The much publicized progress of last year’s MVP, Carey Price, was updated again Friday as he took to the ice in full equipment for the first time since he was re-injured.
  • While the Canadiens have a 24-14-3 record versus teams in the Eastern Conference this season, the Leafs have a 9-16-9 record against teams from the East.
  • So far this season, the Canadiens have a 12-6-1 record versus teams in the Atlantic division, while the Leafs have a 1-8-6 record versus teams coming from the Atlantic.
  • The Canadiens have maintained their placing for the goals against category, they are currently in 19th in the league in goals against, with 168 in 61 games. The Leafs have allowed 176 goals in 58 games and find themselves in 22ed in the league.
  • The Canadiens have risen in the standings in the goals for category as they are currently in 10th place in the NHL, with 167 over their first 61 games. The Leafs are 28th in this category with 145 goals scored in their first 59 games.
