TORONTO, ON. — The Canadiens played host to the Ottawa Senators Tuesday night in their sixth straight Canadian team match-up as they sought to keep their undefeated-at-home status.

Mike Condon was once again incredible and appeared to be taking a page out of Carey Price’s book as he seemed to remain cool, calm and collected throughout. It was a hard fought battle by both teams but ultimately the Habs fell short of the victory, learning very quickly that possession is everything in the NHL’s updated 3-on-3 overtime.

“No one likes losing. It was a hard-fought game. I thought Craig Anderson played really well, we took it to them in the third. That’s the way it goes sometimes. It was a nice play there in overtime. We’ll take the point.“ – Mike Condon

As Condon pointed out, they were unable to get the ‘W’ but they did walk away with a point which is never a bad thing.

Here’s a look at some of the most talked about moments from the match-up.

Things almost kicked off with yet another breakaway goal from Paul Byron. It’s was as if he’d been in this line up all along as the Ottawa-native was, and continues to be, working hard to ensure his presence is felt.

A good chunk of the first period was played in the Ottawa zone eventually leading to a goal from Tomas Plekanec, off an incredible pass by PK Subban.002-NoGoal1

The goal was immediately waved off and subsequently met with a coach’s challenge from Michel Therrien which appeared to be based largely off a suggestion by Dan Lacroix. Ultimately, the call was upheld and the goal was deemed no good, due to goalie interference by Brendan Gallagher.

Condon was once again impeccable in goal as evidenced by an epic glove save against Cody Ceci…

…as well as some fancy foot skate work against Jared Cowen. At the end of the first period, both teams remained scoreless.

In the second period, Jean-Gabriel Pageau (of course) scored a short-handed goal born out of a turnover from PK Subban.

Later in the period, Dale Weise was sent flying by Cowen…

… however, he quickly recovered to catch a pass from Alex Galchenyuk to score on a PP. With his 7th goal of the season, Weise tied things up at 1-a-piece to end the second period.

The third period was goal-less, consequently, for the first time this season, the Canadiens played some 3-on-3 hockey. It was very short lived as just over 30 seconds into the OT period, Pacioretty lost the puck…

…and Kyle Turris took off, finding the back of the net and making it 2-1 for the Ottawa Senators.

You win some, you lose some but a point is a point is a point, right Dale?

Up next the Canadiens will welcome the New York Islanders to the Bell Centre on Thursday at 7:30.
