Leafs-Habs rivalry takes on new Belarussian twist

From TSN excerpt:

But Grabovski added that he wouldn’t mind challenging Kostitsyn where there are no officials in sight.

”I think he is not Belarussian now, he is French because I never fight with Belarussian guys,” Grabovski said. ”I don’t know why he wants to fight with me. If he wants to fight, we’ll go in the street and every minute of every day I’ll wait for him and we’ll fight.”

Grabovski, who was born in Potsdam in the former East Germany but raised in Belarus, wouldn’t get into details of why there is such bad blood between the two. But the Canadiens winger explained the reasons for the feud.

”He talks too much in the Russian papers about me and my brother,” Kostitsyn said of his elder brother and teammate Andrei.

But Grabovski noted he only has a problem with the younger of the two brothers.

”He’s not smart, because the older Kostitsyn, Andrei, he never fights with me and he never will fight because he plays hockey, he plays the game,” he said. ”I think it’s stupid.”

Habster:

I’d pay to see Mr.Grabovski get his ass kicked by Sergei Kostitsyn and believe me, it’s going to happen the next time these two teams play. I’m sure most of his former teammates would love to see the selfish, self-absorb Grabovski get a fist full from Sergei after he went AWOL on team on a West coast road trip last season just because he wasn’t playing regularly.

Sergei may not be a heavy weight as far as fighting is concerned, but he can handle himself if the occasion arises especially against a Mikhail Grabovski.

He would have to defend himself occasionally in the OHL when he landed big hits and players took exception to it. He also handled himself well in a minor skirmish against the Bruins Chuck Kobasew last year (Kobasew vs Kostitsyn Jan 22, 2008) so if Grabs wants to drop the gloves , let’s get it on!!!
