Game Preview by Sam Gerber
Last game : MTL 3  EDM 4  F   After falling behind early once again the Habs battled back but mistake cost them the game. The Habs also didn’t really have an answer for Connor McDavid who blew by the Habs on numerous occasions. Five penalties didn’t allow the Habs to play their style of game.

For a complete game recap: Poor Decisions, Bad Penalties Cost Habs

Players to watch

  • Nick Cousins / Jordan Weal
Both players have been given big opportunities playing with skilled players. While the pair has occasionally contributed, they both lack a finishers touch. Cousins and Weal each took bad penalties last game.
  • Ben Chiarot
It was a rough game for Chiarot as he was victimized by Connor McDavid and company on more than one occasion. Chairot has been a good addition to the Habs blue line but has limitations. Expect a good performance from him tonight as he faces his former team.
  • Joel Armia
Armia is just one goal away from tying his career high. It’s a good night for him to score playing against his former team.

Keys to Victory

  • Clean up errors
The Habs mistakes cost them the last game, too many penalties, turnovers and allowing odd man rushes. The Habs can’t continue to do this if they want to be a playoff team.
  • Get quality shots
The Habs lead the league in shots on goal per game but struggled last game settling for less than 30 shots. The Habs need to get shots on net but at the same time make sure they are quality chances too.
  • Score first
The Habs have only scored first once in their last six games. They have been lucky to  battle back most games but they need to start playing with a lead.

Pre-game quotes
Brendan Gallagher

  • “They’re good and they’re well-balanced throughout their lineup. Obviously those top-six guys, they can hurt you in so many ways offensively. So you’ve got to be sure, even when you have the puck — just play smart.”

What to Expect by Sam Gerber
The Habs Western road trip will come to an end tonight. A win would make the trip  successful with three wins of four games. That said, the Jets are not going to be easy. Their defense isn’t what it was a year ago but it has kept them afloat most of the season. Laurent Brossoit, the Jets backup will get the start and the Habs need to get to him early.
