GAME PREVIEW | Canadiens – Stars: Habs Seek Perfect Road Trip

GAME DAY | Montreal Canadiens vs Dallas Stars: Preview, TV,  Start Time, Statistical Match-up, Projected Lines, Starting Goalies, Keys to Victory, Habs Tickets

Game Preview by Sam Gerber
Last game : MTL 5  VGK 4  F/OT   The Canadiens gave up two early goals to start the third period but with a few lucky bounces the Habs managed to tie the game. Jeff Petry was a game changer, finding a streaking Domi with a perfect pass to send him in all alone for the overtime winner. Keith Kinkaid was again shaky allowing several weak goals. Hopefully getting his first win will help him settle down.

For a complete game recap:

Players to watch

  • Shea Weber
Weber has been excellent lately. He has been a big part of the Habs current win streak.
  • Carey Price
Price was a star and a reason that the Canadiens beat the Maple Leafs and Coyotes this week. The final game of the road trip will be challenging for the Habs.
  • Jonathan Drouin
Drouin was fortunate this week stealing a goal from Joel Armia and getting credit for an own goal by Brayden McNabb. But is it too soon to be projecting a 40-goal season from Drouin?

Keys to Victory

  • Focus on defence
The Dallas Stars have a lot of fire power and the Habs defense can’t afford to step up at the wrong time. Their positioning will be key for the whole game.
  • Play with energy
The Habs may be on the road but the Stars played last night. The Habs have to take advantage and push the pace hoping for a game that doesn’t slow down.
  • Win special teams
The Habs special teams has earned them a few points this year and it will need to do just that again tonight. The Habs haven’t given up a power-play goal the past three games but testing their penalty kill against the Stars is not a good idea.

Pre-game quotes
Claude Julien
  • “It’s important that we get a good start. It’s important that we get our legs under us and get a good jump not just for the start, but throughout the whole game. This is team that is playing much better as of late and they’ve won their last two games. It’s important for us to have a good start and understand that we have a chance here to come home with three wins. That would be a huge boost for us.”

What to Expect by Sam Gerber
The Stars have won five out of their last six games. After a sluggish start they are starting to figure it out. They are being lead by Roope Hintz who has nine goals already tying is career high from last season. The Habs can’t afford to leave him open or over commit to him as the Stars have a number of players that can shoot the puck. The Habs will need to play a smart game and have that never give up attitude once again if they want to finish the road trip with a perfect record.
