Game Preview by Sam Gerber
Last game : MTL 1  BOS 8  F   It was a game where nothing went right for the Habs. Costly turnovers, poor execution, a bad penalty kill and terrible defence sunk the Canadiens. Marc Bergevin did nothing to improve the team in the off-season and it is showing.

For a complete game recap: Habs Routed at Home

Players to watch

  • Jeff Petry
Petry had an off night and finished a minus-4. The Habs need Petry to be one of the best defensemen and when he’s off his game the Habs lack the depth on defence to step up.
  • Victor Mete
The Habs need some help on defence and if Mete doesn’t step up and use his speed more he shouldn’t be part of the Habs future.
  • Carey Price
Price has made big saves and stolen multiple games all season. He remains near the top of the league for starts and wins. But he can’t do it all himself. And when he is abandoned by his defence, it’s easy for some fans to blame him.

Keys to Victory

  • Take the body
The Habs haven’t been finishing their checks instead giving a half-effort stick checks. It’s time the Habs play a more playoff style hockey game leaving their opponents  with bumps and bruises.
  • Focus from start to end
Bad turnovers and goals in the opening and closing minutes of periods can be due to a lack of focus. The Habs are too causal and stop paying attention to what their doing and one slip up ends up in the back of their net.
  • Improve the penalty-kill
The penalty kill is worst in the league. It’s time to fix it and that starts with Claude Julien.

Pre-game quotes
Nate Thompson

  • “[Artemi Panarin] is just so dynamic, the way he sees the ice, the plays he makes. He’s one of those guys that creates space for himself when it’s not there and that’s a pretty elite thing to do. So, he’s one of those guys we have to make sure that when he’s on the ice, we’re aware of it.”

What to Expect by Sam Gerber
The Habs are going through their worst stretch of hockey and struggling to hold on to a playoff spot. They are on pace to finish with the same number of points last year. The Habs need one win to stop the bleeding and move on from there. The Habs were robbed of a win last week against the Devils and it’s up to them to make up for that tonight.
