Game Recap: Canadiens were 15-0-2 when leading after two periods when entering this game. It looked as if they would suffer their first regulation loss to mar that stat after giving up three goals in the third but pulled out a win in the shootout.

 Post-game Chatter

186237429_slideCoach Michel Therrien:

  • “It was a surprising third period especially from two teams with good structure. I`m sure both coaches were not expecting that. It got open. Mental mistakes from our part at times. But we found a way (to win.)”
  • “Both those guys, Lars (Eller) did a good job and David (Desharnais) did a good job again and Peter (Budaj) made some key saves.  We`re getting out of here with another two points.”
  • “Our focus was on tonight`s game. We take one game at a time. We`re going to need to find energy for tomorrow. We all understand that this is a tough part of the schedule for us. The Bruins are fresh. They haven`t played since Saturday so we`re going to find some energy to play that game tomorrow.”
  • “We`re playing at home (on Thursday) and we`re counting on our fans to support us to get the energy to the players.”
  • “We found a way tonight to win the hockey game.  That`s the most important thing for us.”

Captain Brian Gionta:

  • “It wasn’t our prettiest win, but these are the points that are huge. We did a good job Monday night and [Wednesday] of maybe stealing points that we probably didn’t deserve at times.”

Devils coach Peter DeBoer:

  • “I thought we deserved two points in probably both of the games. We come out with one out of four, which obviously isn’t good enough for the standings.”
