 Post-game Chatter

186237429_slideCoach Michel Therrien:

  • “Special teams are always crucial.  I think our guys did a good job. again tonight.  We had to kill off a big four-minute (penalty) early in the game. I thought that gave us momentum.”
  • “[Andrei Markov] is such a smart player, sees the ice well, has experience. His conditioning is great because he’s put a lot of effort on it.  He’s been a leader for us for sure.”
  • “We got three lines that can score that we could put out there (on the power-play.) The way that we decide who is going to go on the ice is when I see a line is having success that night and played well, we’re going to put those guys in.  That’s been our philosophy since last year and we need depth offensively to score goals.”
  • “That’s the way that [Brendan Gallagher] plays. We’re not surprised about that because since we got that kid that’s the way he plays.  Whether we are home or on the road, he’s not going to change his style.  He’s got a lot of courage. He goes to those dirty areas.  He’s getting rewarded for his hard work.”
  • Douglas Murray is a strong man.  He sticks up for his teammate tonight, shows a lot of courage to do that. [John Scott] is one of the toughest guys in the NHL but I liked [Murray’s] game five-on-five. He’s strong in corners, he’s strong around the net. He was concentrating on making the good first pass and he did a good job.”
  • “[Carey Price] gives us a chance to win every night.  He’s been phenomenal for us this year.  He deserves a lot of credit.”

Sabres captain Steve Ott

  • “What’s going on here is nothing to be proud of by any means. If that’s the indication of a playoff game over there, for most of the game I thought we could play with them extremely well if not take it to them in aspects. But we found a way to lose. Good teams, confident teams find ways to battle in it and stick with a game. For us, we need to find that going forward and collectively.”
