 Game Recap:

The Canadiens once again struggled to generate scoring chances looking particularly anemic on the power-play. Carey Price was solid making 14 saves in the third period and stoning all three Lightning shooters in the shootout for the win and first star. Lars Eller scored the game-winner.

 Post-game Chatter

186237429_slideCoach Michel Therrien:

  • “We liked Carey (Price), the way he was playing. I really liked the way that we played the first two periods. [The Lightning] were tough to play against but we were pursuing the puck really well.”
  • “The guys stuck to the game plan. [The Lightning] were pushing at the end obviously but I really appreciated our team effort. The energy was there and I could see right from the get-go that the guys were ready to play.”
  • “I have a lot of confidence in [the fourth line: Ryan White, Travis Moen, Brandon Prust.] Even at the end I was not afraid to play them. They are good guys to kill penalties. They are really responsible defensively, so in a tight game like this, they deserved to be on the ice.”
  • Carey (Price) has been phenomenal. You look at the third period when [the Lightning] gave us a push and he was making key saves. He showed again tonight that he’s one of the best goalies in the NHL.”
  • “I believe that we hot three or four posts. A couple of inches inside and they would have ended up being big goals. This was a good team effort. Guys competed hard. They were quick on pucks. We didn’t force plays when we didn’t have to.”

Forward Tomas Plekanec

  • “It wasn’t easy after the layoff. But we put a pretty good effort and we’re happy with the win. They pushed hard.”

Lightning coach Jon Cooper

  • “It stinks not winning the shootout. You get greedy. Every time you go on one you want to win the thing but their goalie made some great saves.”
