GAMEDAY: All Habs Headlines
► Back from Florida with four points:
- The Montreal Canadiens are back from their two-game trip to Florida with two wins under their belt and they hope that this momentum will continue into Saturday night, as they face off against the Philadelphia Flyers at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
- A few times this season, Carey Price had a shutout going late into the third period but the team was never able to hold on to the zero. This changed Thursday night against the Florida Panthers when for the first time this season, Price picked up the shutout. I’m sure that the shutout was special for Price, who’s always had much respect for his opponent Jose Theodore and vice-versa, which I wrote about last year.
- Price had this to say about the game and the 17th shutout of his NHL career:
“It seemed like both teams wanted to sit back and wait for the other to make a mistake, but neither team really made too many mistakes. The guys played really well in front of me. We limited their chances all game and they only got a couple of really quality chances. Then they came out strong in the third period and we just had to weather the storm.”
“I mentioned last game that it would be nice to close one out and I finally did get one done, but shutouts are a team thing and like I said, we played very well defensively tonight.”
► Carey Price leads the league in wins:
- With his eighth win of the season, Carey Price now leads all NHL goaltenders in wins.
► The battle for the most undisciplined team in the league:
- The Montreal Canadiens have nothing to boast about when it comes to discipline, they currently lead the league in PIM (269) and PIM per game (20.7).
- Interestingly enough, the Philadelphia Flyers are right behind, they currently are second in the league in PIM (247) and fifth when it comes to PIM per game (16.5).
► Canadiens acquire goaltender Dustin Tokarski from the Tampa Bay Lightning in return for Cédrick Desjardins:
- In an AHL deal, the Montreal Canadiens acquired goaltender Dustin Tokarski from the Tampa Bay Lightning in return for Cedrick Desjardins. A bit of deja-vu when it comes to seeing Desjardins leave the Canadiens’ organization for Tampa Bay. Read the press release here.
► Scoring Leaders:
- Flyers:
Matt Read: 6G, 4A
Claude Giroux, Jakub Voracek & Brayden Schenn all have 3G and 7A.
- Canadiens:
Tomas Plekanek: 6G, 5A
Andrei Markov: 4G, 6A
Raphel Diaz: 9A
