►BGL takes his shots : Georges Laraque has never been shy to share his views when a microphone appears. Is he “telling it like it is” or does he have an axe to grind? That’s for you to decide. Laraque is critical about the coach and his cozy relationship to certain players.

► Habs fans staying home : The slow start to the season and the Habs anger with management has them staying home from the Bell Centre. The Canadiens are accustomed to seeing themselves at the top of attendance charts along with the Chicago Blackhawks. Not anymore, so far this season they find themselves ranked 17th in the league.

You might want to do some research or proof-reading before you publish something.
Habs’ attendance is 21,273 for every home game. How do you come up with a 17,018 average????
Research done. ✓ Proof-reading done. ✓ Responding to an ignorant commenter – in progress.
The NHL attendance numbers were compiled by ESPN. At time of publishing here, they were accurate. Since then there has been some dispute about the tabulations and the type of numbers that are reported — ESPN has adjusted their numbers. In the case of the Canadiens, 21,273 tickets have been sold for each of the first six home games. But find someone who has attended a game, or disappointed scalpers, and you know that there have been thousands of no-shows. The point of the inclusion of the ESPN chart in our headlines was to highlight that performance on the ice was affecting the number of fans in the building. That point still stands.
Psycho, the original #s posted by ESPN were incorrect. Montreal sells out every game. If you look at the numbers above, you will see they listed Montreal at 5 games, for a total of 85,092.
If you do the math, 21,273 x “4 Games” (Not 5) = Exactly 85,092. They simply made a mistake of listing Montreal at 5 games, when it should have read 4.
The poster isn’t ignorant. He or she is right. The attendance figures on ESPN have nothing to do with the number of people showing up at games. All NHL teams report attendance as tickets sold.
There is clearly a glitch in the ESPN number – they seem to have added in a phantom home game, which incorrectly lowered the average.
Check out the site now. The figures have been remedied. There was never any point to be made based on that number.
When promoted to supreme deity you may rule what is and what isn’t rude behaviour, and decide for all what is a valid point. Until then…
It has been acknowledged that ESPN published incorrect data. At time of publishing the GameDay set of links, the error had not been detected by ESPN. We post links for the interest and convenience of our readers, and take no responsibility for the accuracy of the information published at another site. Telling us “to do some research or proof-reading” was clearly rude.
To provide additional interest for our readers, we offer a few lines of commentary. This is much different than websites who provide a list of links — we find that lazy, readers find it boring. In this case the comments were about no-shows at the Bell Centre which corresponded in-arena observations and discussions with ticket resellers. No-shows are important because they affect concession sales, merchandise and impact businesses near the Bell Centre. Fans reported staying away because of the on-ice performance of the team. You may not think that is a valid point, but I assure you that Geoff Molson does.
