GAMEDAY: All Habs Headlines

► Anderson and Price dominiate at even-strength:

Both Craig Anderson and Carey Price have been dominating the league at even strength in this early part of the season.
Anderson leads the league amongst starting goaltenders, only allowing 0.65 goals against for every 60 minutes he plays at even-strength. So far, sensational improvement over last season where he finished allowing 2.50 goals against for every 60 minutes played.
On the other hand, Price is second in league amongst starters, allowing 1.14 goals against for every 60 minutes he plays at even-strength. This is a tremendous improvement for Price who finished last season allowing 2.42 goals against for every 60 minutes played.

► The power play keeps on rolling:

The Montreal Canadiens have scored at least one power play goal in each of their seven games so far this season, going 11 for 41 for 26.8 per cent, enough to currently put them sixth in the league in this category.

► Who needs a goal?

With Lars Eller and David Desharnais now having scored goals in Saturday’s game against the Sabres, the Canadiens now have twelve individual players who have scored on the season.

“It’s always fun to score, but it’s not like that was the first goal I’ve ever scored in my life,” said Desharnais. “I have confidence in myself and in my abilities. Sometimes it just takes a little longer, but I knew it would come eventually and I was just happy to see it go in for me today.”

► The kids continue to impress:

Alex Galchenyuk added two assists to his season total Saturday against the Sabres. He now has a goal and six assists on the season, averaging a point every game.
Brendan Gallagher is also holding his own. He scored a goal against Buffalo for his third goal in the past four games and now has five points in six games on the season.

► Galchenyuk is getting comfortable at centre:

Alex Galchenyuk was 82 per cent in the face off circle only two of the eleven face offs that he took in Saturday’s game against the Buffalo Sabres.

► P.K. Subban doing what’s expected of him:

P.K. Subban did well in his 2013 debut with the Canadiens playing a total of 18:01 in ice-time. He obtained an assist and a shot on goal, not to mention a tomahawk missile that crashed into the post. There was little to no thrash-talking on the ice and the triple-low-five was nowhere to be seen in the post-game celebration.

► Home sweet home:

One of Michel Therrien’s goals coming into the season was to improve the Canadiens home record which was dismal last year. So far so good — the Habs are 4-1-0 at the Bell Centre in 2012-13.
Therrien said, “”I always believed [the Bell Centre] is the greatest place to play. We have to play a game where we’re pushing the pace, because I believe our team has speed. And pushing the pace makes it difficult on everyone. When we talk about being tough to play against, it’s not only the physical aspect. It’s our work ethic, our decisions with the puck, all these little things make teams tough to play against.”
