MONTREAL (July 15, 2011) – Montreal Canadiens general manager, Pierre Gauthier, announced today the acquisition of defenseman Mark Mitera from the Anaheim Ducks, in return for defenseman Mathieu Carle.

The 24-year old Mitera played 71 games with the AHL Syracuse Crunch in 2010-11, recording 22 points (6 goals, 16 assists) and serving 50 penalty minutes. The 6’03’’, 213 lbs defenseman played a total of 108 career games in the AHL.

A native of Royal Oak, Michigan, Mitera was drafted in the first round, 19th overall by the Anaheim Ducks at the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

Mathieu Carle played 222 career regular season games with the AHL Hamilton Bulldogs, recording 97 points (30 goals, 67 assists). He also suited up for three NHL games with the Canadiens in 2009-10. Carle was drafted in the second round by the Canadiens, 53rd overall in 2006.
