Habs Assign Beaulieu, Dumont to Hamilton Bulldogs

MONTREAL, QUEBEC – Montreal Canadiens and Hamilton Bulldogs General Manager Marc Bergevin announced today the Canadiens have assigned defenceman Nathan Beaulieu and forward Gabriel Dumont to the Bulldogs. The two skaters tied for the Bulldogs’ team lead in scoring last season.

Beaulieu, 20, split last season between Hamilton and Montreal. The 6’2”, 194-pound defenceman was named the Bulldogs’ Most Valuable Player and Top Rookie and also shared top defenceman honours with Jarred Tinordi. In 67 regular season games with Hamilton, the Strathroy, Ontario native recorded 31 points (seven goals, 24 assists) and 63 penalty minutes. In six regular season games with Montreal, Beaulieu recorded two assists and no penalty minutes. He was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the first round (17th overall) in the 2011 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

Dumont, 22, also split last season between Hamilton and Montreal. With the Bulldogs, he received The Bill Sturrup Trophy as fan favourite. In 55 regular season games with Hamilton, the 5’10”, 186-pound forward recorded 31 points (16 goals, 15 assists) and 83 penalty minutes. In 10 regular season games with Montreal, he recorded three points (one goal, two assists) and 13 penalty minutes. In 178 career regular season AHL games, the Ville Degelis, Quebec native has recorded 73 points (34 goals, 39 assists) and 217 penalty minutes. In 13 career regular season NHL games, Dumont has recorded three points (one goal, two assists) and 13 penalty minutes. He was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the fifth round (139th overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

These latest assignments bring Hamilton’s training camp roster to a total of 43 players, including 24 forwards, 15 defencemen and four goaltenders.

Hamilton’s first pre-season game will be played on Friday, September 27th at 7:30 p.m. when they will host the Toronto Marlies at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex in Oakville. The Bulldogs regular season and home opener is scheduled for Friday, October 11th at 7:30 p.m. against the St. John’s IceCaps at Copps Coliseum.
