Midway through the first period, Senators forward Austin Watson delivered a stiff hit on Justin Barron, who didn’t happen to have the puck. Watson went off for roughing and the game turned a little more feisty. Derick Brassard opened the scoring with about five minutes left in the period and Ottawa took a 1-0 lead to the first intermission. The Canadiens came out with some jump in the middle frame scoring twice from Mike Matheson and Nick Suzuki. The captain’s goal came in somewhat spectacular fashion on the breakaway. Shane Pinto tied the score with six minutes left in the second period. It was a shaky night for Sam Montembeault, who, at this point, had given up two goals on nine shots on goal. The wheels fell off for the Habs in the third period as Ottawa scored three more times for the win. After an excellent game against New Jersey, it was another rough outing for Sam Montembeault. He has lost four of last last six starts. Up NextMontreal has loaned defenseman Corey Schueneman to the Laval Rocket. The Canadiens play their next four games on the road in California and Nevada. On Tuesday, the Habs will face the Sharks in San Jose. Medical UpdatesArber Xhekaj will undergo season-ending surgery on his right shoulder next week in Denver by Dr. Peter Millett. Joel Edmundson will travel with the team to California. He’s expected to be at practice on Monday. Kirby Dach won’t travel to California. He’ll be out indefinitely with a lower-body injury. Joel Armia won’t travel to California. He’s day to day with an upper respiratory infection.
