Habs News | Montreal Canadiens to play a pre-season game against the Florida Panthers in Renous, New Brunswick for Kraft Hockeyville
MONTREAL, QC. — The community of Renous, New Brunswick is the host for Kraft Hockeyville in 2019 and the Canadiens will be heading east to participate in the festivities.
Renous, 40 kilometres southwest of Miramichi, will be the site for an NHL exhibition game between the Montreal Canadiens and the Florida Panthers on September 18th. The Tom Donovan Arena received the most votes in the annual Hockeyville competition and will be receiving $250,000 in arena upgrades.
“All of our personnel and players are excited at the idea of going to play in New Brunswick, where we know we can count on a solid base of hockey fans who know and love the game,” said Canadiens President Geoff Molson.
This is the third time that the Canadiens have participated in a Hockeyville pre-season contest following appearances in Truro Nova Scotia in 2006 and Roberval, Quebec in 2008.
The province of New Brunswick was the home of the Canadiens AHL affiliate, the Fredericton Canadiens, from 1990 to 1999.
“The Panthers are proud to participate in this year’s Kraft Hockeyville game,” said Dale Tallon, Florida Panthers President of Hockey Operations and General Manager. “Whether you’re in Renous or South Florida, supporting the growth of our game at the grassroots level is at the heart of our mission and we’re excited for Renous to watch our Panthers stars compete on the ice.”
The game in Renous is the only one outside the Bell Centre on the Canadiens’ pre-season schedule for 2019. This means that the Habs will not play an exhibition game in Quebec City this season.
