Habs notebook: rookie camp, day 2

Below is an excerpt from a Canadiens.com article by Heather Engel who reports on day#2 of rookie camp:

Swiss misters: Switzerland is well represented at the Canadiens’ rookie camp with defenseman Yannick Weber and goaltender Robert Mayer. Weber, who is expected to make his pro debut in Hamilton this season, and Mayer, a netminder with the Saint John Sea Dogs attending on a try-out, both represented their country at the World Junior Hockey Championship in the Czech Republic earlier this year. Before countryman Mark Streit headed for Long Island, he offered a few words of wisdom to the young blue-liner.

“He said, if I get asked to play forward to go for it. If that will help me realize my dream of playing for the Canadiens, I’ll gladly do it,” admitted Weber.

Habster:

Solid advice from Mark Streit who definitely benefited (62 points in 81 games and a 5 year/$20.5 million contract from the Islanders) from the duo role of playing forward and defense.

Yannick Weber appears to be open to the possible suggestion which would give him a greater chance to make the Canadiens roster in the future.

There have also been suggestions that P.K. Subban would be another player who would benefit from a duo role and has the skill set like Weber to make the adjustment……..time will tell, folks!!
