Habs power past Bruins 3-1

An excerpt from the Globesports.com post game review by Sean Gordon:

Memo to the rest of the NHL: do not, under any circumstances, take penalties against the Montreal Canadiens.

The power-play cast may have changed, but they will still kill you with ruthless, surgical efficiency, as the Boston Bruins can attest.

Playing their second preseason game in as many nights, the Canadiens coolly rifled home three power-play goals in an 11-minute span of the second period to dispatch the Bruins 3-1.
Montreal has now potted 11 power-play goals in eight exhibition contests.

After losing power-play triggerman Sheldon Souray to free agency on the eve of last season, Montreal didn’t skip a beat, posting the league’s best unit as defenceman-cum-forward Mark Streit slotted in to Souray’s role.

Streit departed this past summer, and it appears the Habs have repeated the trick, revamping their attack by stationing forwards at the point (Alex Tanguay and Robert Lang took turns at various points).

“Our philosophy on the power play hasn’t changed,” Montreal coach Guy Carbonneau said after the game. “We want to be a shooting power-play; we just want to find a good combination for that.”
