Not much to complain about in Montreal these days, even if the power play — typically the league’s best — is ranked a pedestrian 19th. Maybe Mark Streit brought more to the table than he’s been given credit for.

The good teams win the close games. Montreal showed how good it was in Week 4 by winning three straight one-goal games. Alex Kovalev had five points in the three wins off three goals and two assists.
I have a feeling that Mathieu Carle or Yannick Weber will assume the role that Streit played in Montreal last season before the year is out. Most likely Carle.
For all of the Brisebois/O’Byrne discussion, my feeling is that neither of those two is the answer.

Nobody has suggested that Brisebois or O’Byrne are the solution of the powerplay…..far from it!!
I agree that either Weber or Carle will get called up if one the Habs D are injured (most likely Weber as he has a better shot than Carle and is a bit quicker). It will also depend on which defenseman is injured to a certain extend.
I still think Gainey will pull the trigger on a trade to acquire a top 4 defenseman…..closer to the trade deadline, of course. He will want to evaluate his team’s play until the new year or February at the latest before any potential move occurs (plus less salary to absorb!!)
I really think the Habs PP will turnaround soon as there are too many good, creative offensive players on it to fail.
