The Flames were winners of 12 of their previous 13 games and had recorded 11 straight wins on home ice. The Canadiens were massive underdogs but freed from the shackles of Dominique Ducharme, they are having fun again playing a brand of ‘never say die’ hockey. It’s the kind of hockey that has been entertaining to watch. The Flames opened the scoring midway through the first period but Montreal answered back in the last minute producing a 1-1 tie heading into the first intermission. Calgary scored twice in the second including a back-breaking short-handed goal by Andrew Mangiapane. The Canadiens refused to fold getting a goal back via the power-play before the period ended. Montreal’s record when trailing after 40 minutes was dismal with one win in 33 contests. But the Habs scored twice in the third frame before yielding a tying goal with 28 seconds remaining. That set the stage for a dramatic game-winning goal in overtime scored by Ben Chiarot, his second of the night, on a play initiated by Mike Hoffman. The assist gave Hoffman a four-point game. Calgary suffered their first home loss since January 13th. Up NextThe next stop for the Canadiens is Edmonton for a Saturday night contest against the Oilers.Plus▲ Ben Chiarot, Nick Suzuki, Mike HoffmanMinus▼ Josh Anderson, Alexander Romanov, Cole CaufieldGame PreviewCheck out the game preview here: A Familiar Face | PREVIEW: MTL @ CGY |
