Canadiens sign defenseman Greg Pateryn to a two-year contract extension

MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced Thursday a two-year contract extension for defenseman Greg Pateryn (2014-15 to 2015-16).

Pateryn, 23, recorded 34 points (15 goals, 19 assists) in 68 games with the AHL Hamilton Bulldogs in 2013-14. He led the Bulldogs defensemen in points and ranked second among the team rearguards in assists. The 6’02’’, 222 lbs defenseman led the Bulldogs with seven powerplay goals and finished second among AHL defensemen in goals. Pateryn maintained a +4 differential, served 67 penalty minutes, scored one shorthanded goal and had 144 shots on goal.

Pateryn has played three regular-season games with the Canadiens in the NHL back in the 2012-13 season. He has collected 46 points (22 goals, 24 assists) in 107 regular season contests with the Bulldogs in the AHL since making his professional debut in 2012-13.

A native of Sterling Heights, Michigan, Pateryn was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the fifth round, 128th overall at the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. He was acquired from the Maple Leafs on July 3, 2008 along with a second round draft pick in 2010, in return for forward Mikhail Grabovski.
